I had always wanted to do a reggae track, but it was in the 'Too difficult' box. And so it turned out! Not understanding what makes up a reggae track made it a major challenge. The vocals were particularly awkward to fit in as they do not comply with the music rules I know.
Eventually it came together, keeping it simple helped, and the final result sounds like reggae to me.
Lyrics
V1
E The sun shines down me on all day
D Along the beach across the bay
E its where I swim and where I play
A my Caribbean E holiday
E The sky is blue and the water too
D I hang out by the barbeque
E There’s lots to see and lots to do
A The Caribbean’s E good for you
A and as the day turns into night
E there’s shadows in the light
D the sunset is a true delight
E Oh yeah
Chorus
G I love it here D It’s like Paradise
C Just come here too, That’s G my advice
G I love the sun and I D love the spice
C so pour me a drink, oh D that’s so nice
V2
The water’s warm and the sand is fine
The beach is where I spend my time
It is a favourite place of mine
The Caribbean’s quite sublime
I love the folk I meet out there
They love their land and they like to share
A cool cool life without a care
The Caribbean’s full of flair
and as the sun goes down at night
the music starts to play
we sing and dance by firelight
Oh yeah
Chorus (Repeat)
G I love it here D It’s like Paradise
C Just come here too, That’s G my advice
G I love the sun and I D love the spice
C so pour me a drink, oh D that’s so nice
